COMPETITIVE GOLF

If you enjoy challenging yourself and playing competitive golf, then perhaps you’d enjoy playing in the Ottawa Valley Golf Association (OVGA) Intersectionals. This is a competition where PGC will send a team (both men & women) to compete in these tournaments. Try-outs will be held on various days throughout the spring and early summer. To sign up for these events, check the bulletin boards in the hallway outside the Pro Shop. For more information you can go to the OVGA website at www.ovga.org

The women also compete in Valley League, which is a competition between four other local clubs. The tryouts for this event are on the same day as the Intersectional tryouts.

For men there is also the Border league, Valley League and the St. Lawrence District Interclub. The Border League is a 10-man team event that consists of the top 8 men from qualifying which includes 1 junior and 1 senior. There are 8 teams that take part; Cornwall, St. Lawrence, Gananoque, Smith Falls, Partridge Run, Morrisburg, Brockville and Prescott. The format is a one-day stroke play team event with 9 out of 10 scores counting. The Valley League is a 4 team competition between Prescott, Iroquois, Morrisburg and Cedar Glen. The 14 man teams consist of 4 A Flight, 4 B Flight, 4 C Flight, 1 Junior and 1 Senior. The St. Lawrence District Interclub is a 10-man team event, the same as the Border League. There are 12 teams that take part, Amherstview, Brockville, Cataraqui, Cornwall, Gananoque, Garrison, Massena, Mississippi, Perth, Potsdam, Smith falls, and Prescott. The format is a two-day stroke play event, and the team takes the top 8 scores each day. Again, the sign-up sheets for the try-out dates will be posted on the bulletin board in the hallway outside the Pro Shop.

HANDICAP SYSTEM

If you intend to play in any league or competitive events, you will require a handicap/index. There are is a computer at the counter in the golf shop to enter your scores and keep a handicap. Golf Canada also has a website and an App that allows golfers to enter their scores from their home computer or on their phone. At the end of your round, enter your score. You are strongly encouraged to enter your scores hole by hole, as the Golf Canada program will take off the necessary strokes for you.

PRO SHOP

We have a full-service Pro Shop. Our PGA of Canada Professional, Bill Minkhorst, keeps the Pro Shop well stocked for all your golfing needs. If you don’t see what you are looking for, please ask Bill. He can order almost anything golf related and he will price match.

If you would like to store your clubs, we offer that service as well for a fee. Simply leave your clubs outside the door to the storage area and our back-shop staff will clean your clubs and put them away for you. You will need to get a storage bag-tag from the Pro Shop.

POWER CART LEASE

We have a full complement of power carts available to all golfers. We offer a “cart lease” option if you prefer to ride instead of walking. You pay a yearly fee and then simply pay the daily usage fee, which is currently $7.00 for 18 holes, or $3.50 for 9 holes.
